The SMILE project, led by Prof. Andrea Samson at UniDistance in Switzerland, aims to explore how humor can help young people with autism manage their emotions and improve their overall well-being. Because children and adolescents with autism often experience difficulties in regulating their emotions, the project will investigate how humor can support this regulation. Using electroencephalography (EEG), the research will examine the brain mechanisms underlying humor-based coping strategies. The findings are expected to provide new insights into how humor may promote emotional flexibility, well-being, and resilience in young people with autism.
